Calm Mg is a magnesium-based liquid complementary feed for horses. Calm Mg helps optimize magnesium levels in the blood, thereby reducing stress and fear and supporting the mental well-being of horses.

When to use Calm Mg

Calm Mg is a liquid complementary feed that supplies horses with highly bioavailable sources of magnesium. It is particularly beneficial for young horses that have difficulties during their first competitions, especially indoor events, as well as for anxious adult horses that are difficult to handle due to low blood magnesium levels.

Properties of the ingredients

Magnesium is involved in more than 300 different metabolic reactions and is therefore an extremely important nutrient. It is essential for cellular energy production, nucleic acid synthesis, muscle contraction, and nerve impulse transmission.

However, not all magnesium salts are equally bioavailable to the body. For this reason, Unika has selected three highly bioavailable magnesium sources: magnesium citrate, magnesium aspartate, and magnesium chloride. These salts are completely water-soluble and are absorbed by the body more efficiently than poorly soluble or insoluble salts such as magnesium oxide.

Magnesium is absorbed in both the small and large intestines, and the efficiency of absorption depends on the solubility of magnesium salts in intestinal fluids. Studies show that magnesium has neuroprotective properties and plays a role in ATP production—ATP being the body’s primary source of energy. For this reason, magnesium may also have an energizing effect.

Directions for use

Mix 50–100 g of Calm Mg per day into the horse’s daily feed ration (a small single-serve coffee cup holds approximately 70 g). The product has a syrup-like texture and is highly palatable for horses. The recommended period of use is at least 30–40 consecutive days.

The recommended daily dose must not be exceeded, as magnesium has a mild laxative effect.
